Ember Womb Balm
A handmade herbal balm for your womb, belly and heart
A small balm born from plants, patience and love.
This womb balm was created as an invitation to come back home to your womb and yourself. To soften, to listen, and to remember that your body carries an incredible wisdom.
Every batch is handmade in my kitchen in Switzerland using wild spruce resin/Fichtenharz, beeswax, and olive oil that is slowly infused with healing herbs for an entire moon cycle. I choose this slow process because I believe that time is part of the medicine.
The plants & ingredients
Every ingredient in the Ember Womb Balm has its own story.
At its heart is spruce resin/Fichtenharz from Flumserberg, sustainably sourced from the Swiss forest. I love that the resin carries a very literal sense of place: it comes from the trees of the mountains and brings their earthy, resinous character into the balm.
The olive oil is not simply olive oil. I let it slowly infuse for one full moon cycle with four herbs: lady's mantle, raspberry leaf, tulsi and mugwort. This slow process gives the plants time to share their qualities with the oil before the balm is made.
I chose these plants for their long history in herbal traditions, particularly in connection with women's cycles, the belly and the body's natural rhythms.
Fichtenharz
Norway spruce · Picea abies
Sustainably sourced from the forests around Flumserberg, Switzerland.
Spruce resin has been used in traditional European herbal medicine for centuries, particularly in preparations for the skin. Research on spruce resin salves has also found antimicrobial activity.
For me, Fichtenharz brings something beyond its physical qualities: the feeling of the forest. Resin, tree, earth, protection and rootedness.
Lady's Mantle
Alchemilla vulgaris
Lady's mantle has a long history in European herbal traditions and has traditionally been associated with women's health, menstruation and the pelvic area. It has also been traditionally used for digestive complaints and for soothing the skin.
It is sometimes called the women's herb, and I love having it at the heart of an oil made for the belly.
Raspberry Leaf
Rubus idaeus
Raspberry leaf has a particularly strong connection with women's herbal traditions. Traditionally, it has been used to support the menstrual cycle and to ease minor menstrual spasms. Energetically it is also used for protection and acts like a little guardian.
Tulsi
Holy Basil · Ocimum tenuiflorum
Tulsi has been cherished in Ayurvedic traditions for centuries.
It contains a number of plant compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity and supports with warmth and the power of goddess Lakshmi.
Mugwort
Artemisia vulgaris
Mugwort has an especially fascinating history in women's herbal traditions. It has traditionally been associated with menstruation, the digestive system and gynecological health, and was once known as the "mother of herbs". It's soothing for the digestive tract and can help increase the blood flow.
It is also deeply connected to the moon and goddess Artemis.
Olive Oil
Olive oil brings nourishing lipids and antioxidants to the balm and helps soften and moisturise the skin. It's also said to bring joy and peace.
Beeswax
Beeswax gives the balm its beautiful, protective texture. On the skin, beeswax forms a light protective layer that helps reduce moisture loss while softening and conditioning the skin. I love it as a bridge between the plants and the body: holding everything together and creating a balm that can be slowly massaged into the belly.
Essential Oils
I use a small blend of patchouli, eucalyptus, rose, tea tree, lavender and rosemary.
Together they create the earthy, floral, fresh and deeply aromatic character of the Ember Womb Balm and add their own healing properties.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is a naturally occurring antioxidant and helps to protect the balm from oxidation.
The Invitation
Take a moment to place your hands on your belly.
To slow down.
To feel.
To breathe.
To listen.
Sometimes supporting our relationship with the body begins with something very simple: giving it our attention, our curiosity and love.
